Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Marc Eichhorn co-directs Fraunhofer IOSB with Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Jürgen Beyerer. In the board of directors, he is specifically responsible for the Ettlingen site. He also coordinates the institute's scientific activities in defense research across all sites.
Prof. Eichhorn holds the Chair of Optronics at the Institute of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Systems Optimization (ITE) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Fraunhofer IOSB and the chair work closely together on content. Thus, synergy effects, which lie in the chair's rather basic research-oriented approach and IOSB's application-oriented orientation, can be optimally developed.
In addition, close cooperation promotes the recruitment of excellent young scientists for Fraunhofer IOSB.
The focal points in research, teaching and innovation at the Chair of Optronics include photonic materials and components, laser sources and laser systems, as well as laser measurement technology in the near, middle and far infrared with the respective specific requirements of optronics.
