Developing and evaluating novel vision systems. Optimal use and networking of sensors. Processing and evaluating the resulting data streams. On this basis, we efficiently support people in making well-founded decisions, optimize processes and intelligently control autonomous systems:

This complete process and utilization chain is our domain at the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB. It combines our three eponymous core competencies.

We make this unique competence profile available for a wide range of application areas: It ranges from automation/industry 4.0 to inspection and supply infrastructures to security and defense research.

Optronics

Optronics is concerned with the generation of light, its beam shaping, propagation and conversion into electronic signals - i.e. in particular with technical processes to generate images (in the broadest sense) of the world around us.

System Technologies

Systems Technologies ensures a holistic approach: we develop not only components and algorithms, but also complex hardware and software architectures. The resulting information technology systems support humans on the basis of sensor data, automate certain tasks and/or open new ways in human-machine interaction. In doing so, we set the highest standards in terms of interoperability, IT security and data protection/privacy.

Image Exploitation

Image Exploitation explores procedures and algorithms to extract information and ultimately relevant insights from the images.
