Following the timeline above, you will find an overview of the heads of our institute and its predecessor institutes:

Time period

Head of FfO / FIM / FGAN FOM

1973 - 1998 Prof. Dr. Dieter Höhn manages the Research Institute for Optics (FfO), which was founded in 1973.
1974 - 1998
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Kazmierczak is director of the Research Institute for Information Processing and Pattern Recognition (FIM).
1999 - 2010 Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Maurus Tacke is head of the Research Institute for Optronics and Pattern Recognition (FOM) of the Research Association for Applied Natural Sciences (FGAN), which resulted from the merger of FfO and FIM.  
2010 - 2013 Prof. Tacke takes over with Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Jürgen Beyerer the management of the Fraunhofer IOSB, which was founded in 2010 as a result of the merger of Fraunhofer IITB and FOM.

Head of ISF / Fraunhofer IITB

1956 - 1967 Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Horst Tischner founds the Institute of Vibration Research (ISF) in 1956 and heads the institute until 1967, when it is incorporated into the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft on January 1, 1967.

1968 - 1982
 
Dr.-Ing. Alfred Schief is appointed director of the institute in 1967. In 1973, the departments Information Processing (IITB-IV) were established under the direction of Dr.-Ing. Alfred Schief and Data Processing (IITB-DV) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Max Syrbe.
1968 - 1983 Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Max Syrbe is appointed in 1968 as head of the institute for the data processing division to be founded (IITB-DV). In 1983 Prof. Syrbe is elected President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, an office he holds until 1993.
1983 - 2000 Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hans-Hellmut Nagel takes over the management of the institute for the area of information processing in 1983.
1984 - 2004 Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hartwig U. Steusloff takes over the management of the institute in 1984 for the area of data processing. In 1995 the departments IV and DV are merged.
1989 - 2004 Dr.-Ing. Hans-Achim Kuhr is appointed in 1989 as second head of the institute for the area of information processing.

2004 -

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Jürgen Beyerer takes over the management of  Fraunhofer IITB in 2004. In 2010, IITB and FGAN-FOM merge into Fraunhofer IOSB, which is now headed by the institute directors Prof. Tacke and Prof. Beyerer.
Since Prof. Tacke's retirement in 2013, Prof. Beyerer is the sole managing director of the Fraunhofer IOSB.
