Platform economy for SMEs – recognizing new opportunities and using them in a targeted manner

Increasing digitalization in all areas of economic activity and the ever greater division of labor in production are leading to the establishment of rapidly growing digital platforms (digital marketplaces).

With a view to the future and shortened product life cycles, as well as trends with regard to personalized products with small batch sizes, aspects such as machine availability, the shortening of downtimes, and the relocation of production steps to other companies can become decisive for competition. In addition, many companies offer products that they do not manufacture completely themselves, which means that cross-company supply chains are increasingly emerging. This also increases the relevance of platforms, which can offer solutions for these challenges of our time through digitalization, automation and the cross-company networking of entire ecosystems (platform economy).

The keynote speech followed by a workshop will generate insights into this topic - especially for SMEs. The presentation and use of the Smart Factory Web laboratory prototype will highlight relevant opportunities to become part of these digital production marketplaces.
