Companies are facing enormous challenges in order to achieve the decarbonization and energy efficiency targets. They must adapt their structures and working methods in order to use energy more sustainably than before. This requires a comprehensive understanding of business processes and a targeted analysis of energy consumption. This results in added value such as cost savings, resource efficiency, environmental protection and improvement of the company's own CO2 footprint and ultimately more ecological value creation
Fraunhofer IOSB advises companies on identifying and evaluating potential transformation scenarios and develops tools and solutions for this purpose. This identifies the optimal decarbonization path for the company. This leads to lower energy costs and thus helps to increase competitiveness.
Cross-sectoral approach
In any case, the "production" and "energy" sectors must be more closely interlinked: Energy flexibility from companies and their production should be made available to the energy sector to secure the energy supply.
Such cross-sector energy management requires a suitable IT infrastructure and access to data. Data creates the basis for well-founded decisions and opens up the possibility of measurably improving energy management. Open and standardized data room technologies, e.g. Gaia-X, form the basis for data sovereignty, efficient and secure data exchange, transparency as well as time and cost savings.
