Our expertise ranges from the physics of signal generation, including the generation, propagation and detection of light, to the people and machines that use the signals contained in the information - including the design of user-friendly, privacy-protecting and secure assistance systems.

Our research results shape the future - and are applied in industrial manufacturing, automated inspection, energy systems, intelligent cities, autonomous systems or public safety.

The application orientation of research is the trademark of Fraunhofer. We are not only close to the needs of end users in industry and public authorities, but also finance around one third of our work from real customer orders - in other words, we act (and acquire) close to the market and industry. Conversely, working for us often opens up good career opportunities in business.

Furthermore, the work in our scientific departments is characterized by cooperation and communication. In interdisciplinary project teams, motivated researchers and student assistants work together on sustainable future technologies. What I particularly appreciate at Fraunhofer IOSB are the multi-layered and complex tasks that always keep my mind moving and challenge me on a daily basis.
