This division combines our competencies and activities in the development of solutions for the Industrial Internet, which connects machines, products and people in real time. This includes:

 

Industrial communication systems

Intelligent sensor systems

For more demanding production processes, it is important to have information about surrounding environments in addition to process data. Moisture and temperature conditions, contamination in the ambient air, and presence of people can all influence the overall quality and success of manufacturing processes, which demonstrates the importance of considering these environmental circumstances. At the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, we are developing intelligent sensor systems while aiming to alter production processes adaptively and dynamically to accommodate the constantly changing environmental conditions. Our strategies consist of simplified integration into plants, the fusion of secondary measurements, and adaptation to the changing environment. Implementing these strategies results in a more efficient and economical operation of production processes and facilities

 

Indoor localization 

For the realization of location-based services, there are a variety of localization and tracking technologies that can be used and combined depending on the specific application and requirements (e.g., accuracy). Location-aware applications, for example, allow easy tracking or finding of people, machines, and products in real-time, reducing maintenance through context-based data preparation, and streamlining workflows. Fraunhofer IOSB-INA has relevant experience with various localization technologies and has an integration framework to use in conjunction with industrial communication systems and mobile devices as networked solutions in technical systems. Due to the high competence of the IOSB in the field of imaging sensors and their evaluation, an integration of efficient methods for object recognition and classification is also possible.
