It is increasingly evident that the era of mass production is being replaced by the era of market niches. This makes flexibility an increasingly important attribute to manufacturing. In response the reconfigurable manufacturing system concept has emerged in the last few years as an attempt to achieve the required manufacturing flexibility.
The European research project SkillPro (http://www.skillpro-project.eu/) started in 2012 and will end in 2015. SkillPro intends to establish a Skill-based Resource Controller Architecture for Skill-based propagation of »Plug&Produce«-devices in reconfigurable production system, as well as for the autonomous setup and execution of production tasks.
Fraunhofer IOSB as MES vendor will be the central integration platform within the project. Project leader is the KIT, international SMEs complete the project team.
Interested users especially from SMEs can discover the new functionality in demo cells at the end users of the project and the KIT.
