Fraunhofer IOSB’s activities deal with a wide variety of robot systems ranging from humanoid robots, for which innovative variable structure controls have been developed, to mobile
robots equipped with autonomous skills.
These systems mainly rely on sensor fusion methods, which enable the establishment of heterogeneous multi-sensor systems. They form the basis of more advanced algorithms which empower mobile robots to explore unknown environments autonomously. These algorithms implement robust methodologies of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and path planning.
