The department Video Exploitation Systems VID (up to December 2011 Autonomous Systems and Machine Vision ASM) deals with the automatic evaluation of signals from imaging sensors in complex and non-cooperative scenarios.
A special focus is on the evaluation of video data on a moving platform. This sensor system is used, for example, in the field of reconnaissance and surveillance as an integrated component in flying, space-based or mobile land-based platforms.
Another focus is the data evaluation of camera networks. Camera networks are increasingly found in the public space, for example at railway stations, airports or even in inner city areas. In particular the efficient analysis of the mass of data as well as the increase of the security through automatic situation interpretation are the main focus of the research topics arising here.
