Corona pandemic: information on how to cooperate

19 March 2020

Dear business partners, dear friends of Fraunhofer IOSB,

In view of the latest developments we would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the current situation at our institute. To start with the most important information: Even though the framework conditions have changed, we will continue to work on your and our projects and you can contact us by phone and all the other digital communication channels.

Protection and prevention are given priority

Both Fraunhofer IOSB and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as a whole consider the well-being of our staff and the protection of our business partners to be a matter of top priority. We have taken comprehensive measures to minimize the risks and ensure a responsible and yet proportionate response to the situation. We consistently adhere to the regulations imposed by the authorities and by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. In the case of infection or suspicion, there is a detailed emergency plan in place to protect the affected men and women and to interrupt the chain of infection.

The work will go on – in a different mode

Since the beginning of this week, it is not only team members who have returned from risky areas or who are otherwise exposed or endangered that work at home. Rather, we have transferred all activities to the home office wherever possible. At our local subsidiaries, there is only small minority of staff at work to ensure that crucial processes and infrastructures are in place, paying increased attention to precautionary measures. A large variety of digital tools still allow us to communicate effectively, to cooperate closely and to get ahead with our projects. As has always been the case, we carefully ensure data protection and data security.

Maximum reduction of face-to-face appointments

Unfortunately, scheduled events have to be cancelled or postponed these days. Business trips are reduced to an absolute minimum, meetings comprising more than five people have to be avoided for the time being. Instead of face-to-face appointments, we make vivid use of telephone and video conferences – both with colleagues and with our customers and cooperation partners.

How to contact us

In most cases, you can reach us as usual. All our team members can access their e-mail accounts from outside the institute, phone calls are forwarded to the home office. Print mail will also be answered, yet we would ask you to preferably use electronic communication channels wherever possible. However, should you, in rare cases, have the impression that you get no answer, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. We will connect you with your contact person.

The aforementioned explanations reflect the current state of affairs. It is hardly possible to predict how the situation will evolve. Yet we remain optimistic and can promise you two things: We will continue to do anything to maintain our working ability and handle all projects and orders with the proven quality and reliability. And: We will continue to keep you updated here ( in a timely and transparent way. Whenever there is a change, we will inform you here as quickly as possible.

Kind regards and all the best to you, your family and your team!
