History of the Control Engineering Colloquium

In the course of its long history, the Control Technology Colloquium in Boppard has developed into an institution in the field of control and automation technology, whose unbroken acceptance and attractiveness is reflected in the almost complete participation of the corresponding university and research institutes as well as numerous industry representatives. Due to the specific family atmosphere of the colloquium, it offers the German-speaking control and automation technology community a unique annual forum in which the participating research institutions can report on their current research work and put it up for discussion at regular intervals without the usual thematic restrictions of scientific conferences and congresses. Thus, the colloquium not only provides an overview of current developments in the field of control and automation technology, but also enables the discussion of new challenges for our field.

In recent years, the role and self-image of control and automation technology in the information age, the development of new methods and fields of application, and the fundamental perspectives of our department, especially in relation to computer science, have been discussed in detail and with great passion.

Background

As a precursor of the colloquium in Boppard, the following control engineering colloquia were funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) after the conclusion of the DFG priority program "Control Engineering". Also listed are the scientific leaders of the colloquia.

Organizational Management

Since 1974, the Control Engineering Colloquium in Boppard has been organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, Systems Engineering and Image Exploitation IOSB (until 2010 Fraunhofer Institute for Information and Data Processing IITB Karlsruhe (head Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Syrbe, since 1984 Prof. Dr.-Ing. J. Beyerer) has been organizing and hosting the event. Until 1977 the IITB was funded by the DFG, since 1974 by Dr.-Ing. E. Kunze, since 1980 by Dr.-Ing. H.-B. Kuntze and since 2010 by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Since 2018 the colloquium is organized by Dr.-Ing. Janko Petereit.
